João Pedro Marnoto born in 1975 in Porto, Portugal, after completing his Photography B.A. Hons in the United Kingdom, received a grant from the Portuguese Centre of Photography to develop a personal project, a photography/video installation titled ”Pity vs Charity – observation and reflexion”. Afterwards, he turned increasingly into documentary with his first book “The Rocks, People and Memories” published in 2007 dealing with the cultural and social heritage of a region in the heart of the Douro valley. Also conducted a photography workshop project with children from urban and rural areas and directed a documentary on the subject titled  ”Between Us” with the final result as a touring exhibition and the edition of a Book+DVD (http://www.entre-nos.net). More recently finished a photography and video project titled “Faith in Donkeys”, that seeks to enhance the complicity of the man-animal relation, with particular relevance to the dumb, donkeys, mules and males in Northeast Portugal, ending with a Book+DVD publication and an open air exhibition to be shown around Portugal and other countries (http://www.faithindonkeys.com). Between several presentations and some awards and mentions, participated in “Happiness” were it was asked to intervene with photography in Hospitals and Medical Centres as part of the program of Porto 2001 European Capital of Culture, was selected for Lumix Festival for Young Photojournalism in Hannover, Germany (2008), has participated in “This Day of Change” project developed by Courrier Japan (2009), and showed more recently his work in FotoWeekDC 2010 in Washington, USA, while continuing to develop editorial work for national and international media along with photography teaching.
