Originally from Jamaica, Marcus was raised in South Florida. He holds a BA in Philosophy. In 2000, Marcus began studying wellness, which lead him down a path of fitness and health. In the process he became a certified yoga instructor and a trainer in energy movement practices such as Tai Chi, Qi Gong, Reiki, Kundalini yoga, and Capoeira.
His deeper passion was later discovered through his connection to nature. Ever since childhood Marcus had a love for being in natural environments, climbing trees, swimming in lakes, and playing in nature. Through his strong desires of creating optimum health, he ventured into growing his own food which connected him back to the land. After living on and working on farms in South Florida Marcus was introduced to the ecological science of permaculture – a term coined by ecologists Bill Mollison and David Holmgren, which stands for “permanent culture”.
In 2009 he completed a certification training course in Permaculture with renowned permaculturist Rosemary Morrow at the Permaculture Research Institute in Australia. He furthered his studies with Kat Steele and other teachers at Esalen in Big Sur, California and completed an advanced course on urban gardening design. He currently designs and retrofits urban gardens aligned with the design principles of permaculture and runs Permaculture Miami – a permaculture educational program in Miami, Florida. He is currently working on co-designing a permaculture intentional community in Alabama.
